HOLY OYSTERS METHYLENE BLUE

We’ve got another new EP to sink our teeth into, this time from psychedelic-pop foursome Holy Oysters. The Parisian band popped up about a year ago with summer-inducing synth pop debut ‘Take Me For A Ride’, which very much set the tone for their wholly addictive rhythms and earworm melodies - though each new release has been a sonic surprise. On ‘Kaleidoscope’ the four-piece the band introduced Indian strings to a web of funk and pop grooves, then it was all cloud-like romantic dreaminess on ‘Oh’ and for ‘Fire Dancing’, the band transformed into retro space cadets. Altogether, these versatile songs make the new Egonomy EP a joyful gift. A particularly fantastic addition to the EP is ‘Methylene Blue’, which sees Holy Oysters venture into slick R&B and a more contemporary pop sound. Closely related to the style of ‘Fire Dancing’, which both draw similarity to The 1975’s ‘Chocolate’, this new track is a simmering pop of sustained synths, Japanese House-esque vocal effects, spring psych strings, a sensuous R&B chorus, and trap-style drums. It really showcases the band’s eclecticism while recording the Egonomy EP, which is out right now via Distiller Records. - HT
